John Russell is one of the most long established members of the improvised music community in London. He arrived there at the age of 17 in 1971, and quickly became involved with the free improvisation scene, playing at The Little Theatre Club with John Stevens and others, becoming a member of the London Musicians' Co-op, and starting to organise concerts. He has played with most of the leading figures in improvised music throughout the world and has appeared on over 50 CDs. The Mopomoso series of monthly gigs, which John set up with Chris Burn in 1991, is still running and is probably the longest standing improvisation series in the world.
